Today marks the end of a journey to obtain my VCP6-NV and obtain the tri-fecta of SDDC VCPs (i.e. VCP6-DCV, VCP6-CMA and VCP6-NV).
I originally took the remote VMware NSX 6 ICM Course in December 2015 (run by the #awesome @JensSoeldner ). The course was hard going not only because it was in GMT+1 time zone but also (and mainly) because networking has always been a dark art. Jens actually managed to make it interesting!
I booked the VCP6-NV exam for January 2016 with every expectation of doing it. Unfortunately work and other certification got in the way. I kept pushing it back I must have rescheduled at least 6/7 times. I even bought the Official Pearson/VMware VCP6-NV book by @ELVERs_Opinion to get me back on track.
Flash forward 13 months to February 2017 and I decided it was time to sit down and get this over with. It’s not like I had been resting over the last 12 months and have been successful in completing my VCIX6-DCV, VCAP6-CMA Design and had just sat the VCAP6-CMA Deploy exam.
Anyway now it is finally over with. That nagging in the back of my brain about whether or not I knew enough to get it has finally gone. I knew enough… just.
There is no doubt, SDN is having the same impact that “regular” Virtualisation had way back when I started my journey in IT. Do I think of myself of a Network Virtualisation expert? Nope, I know enough to be dangerous, enough to be informed and definitely more than I ever thought I would about Networking. Most importantly I know enough to make sure the people/customers I work with can trust the advice they’re being given.
And to top it all, I’ll get another super VMware Digital Badge! (yay!)
You never know, if I get to VMworld Barcelona this year, maybe I will even sit the VCAP6-NV just for fun. How hard can it be right?
